I´m from Brazil and going to study at Belgium, at University of Liège.

I got my VISA yesterday and there is some stuff marked:

TYPE: D
N. of entries: 1
Valid for: Belgique + 1transit etats Schengen

I have to be in Liège 8 days after arriving in Europe, for present myself at the "Administration communale".

The problem is that I planned a backpacking travel before arriving in Belgium and bought my airplane tickets to arrive in Rome, and from there, to other countries.

As Brazilian - that can stay in UE for 90 days without a VISA - do I lose that "right" of free transit because I got a VISA?

What is the period of validity of your visa?

My visa is valid from 14/07 to 14/10, untill I get the new one at Belgium.

14/07 is the day I´ll arrive in Europe, at Rome. From there, will go to some other countries before arriving Belgium.

The mixture of a visa exemption and of a long stay D visa is rather messy. It is difficult to get twice the same answer from consulates. I understand discussions have been going on between Schengen States specialists, but they have been inconclusive.

And the I do not know the Belgian system well enough to give you an answer which would be 100% safe.

Therefore, I would recommend you ask the Belgian consulate which has issued your visa when your visa alloxs you to enter Belgium. Meanwhile, I'll try to get information.

Well, I have permition to enter in Belgium from 14/07 to 14/10, and ask there for my other visa, once I would live there for a time.

I just don't know if I could travel to another country before going to Belgium. I mean, as a Brazilian, I would not need a visa to do so. I don't know if the fact of taking this VISA changes this.

The fact that you have a Belgian visa does not change your visa exemption before you arrive in Belgium. Therefore, you can spend 3 months in the Schengen area before asking your residence permit in Belgium.
