Entry to Schengen countries with Permit of Stay

Hi!

I am on a study exchange programme in Italy for four months, and I wish to visit Schengen countries in the next weeks.

I understand that since I hold a multiple-entry Type D visa, I can only enter Schengen countries by presenting my permesso di soggiorno (permit of stay in Italy).

Upon my permit application however, I was informed that I would have to wait three months before the actual permit is ready. For the meantime, I was given a receipt (Accetazione Assicurata. Ricevuta). Would that suffice for entry into Schengen countries?
